Lauren Chamberlain A230 week-2

Oklahoma sophomore first-base standout
& leadoff batter Lauren Chamberlain

CHAMBERLAIN – a key leader for OU's 2012 WCWS runner-up team – has bumped up the the leadoff spot and has not missed a beat, posting back-to-back dominating weeks while the Sooners have been playing an assortment of the nation's top teams. During week-2 action at San Diego State's Campbell/Cartier Classic, the OU first baseman reached base 12 times (hit 8-for-16 with four walks) and smacked five-exrta base hits (2 home runs, 3 doubles) while factoring into 11 of her team's runs (5 RBI, 8 R, 2 HR). She also was successful on all three stolen-base attempts and finished the tournament with as many home runs as strikeouts (2).

In addition to helping post a 4-0 win over host SDSU, Chamberlain had a productive game (2 runs, RBI single, 2 walks) in the 11-0 win over a #22 Kentucky squad that already has knocked off several top-25 teams this season. Later that day, her timely two-run blast provided the game's only scoring in a 2-0 win over 16th-ranked Washington.

Oklahoma was ripe for an upset on the final day in San Diego while facing a Notre Dame team that received votes in the preseason polls. The Irish took a 3-2 lead into the top of the 7th, but Chamberlain delivered a leadoff double and came around to score and ultimately send the game to the 8th. Two innings later, ND showed its respect to Chamberlain by issuing her an intentional walk that loaded the bases (an ensuing walk pushed in the go-ahead run and the Sooners won, 7-5 in 9 innings).

Chambermain's dominating start to the season – which included facing several top teams (Oregon, Stanford, Oregon State, Northwestern & New Mexico) at ASU's week-1 Kajikawa Classic – includes batting at a .556 clip (15-for-27), with six home runs and three doubles (1.333 slugging pct.), 17 RBI, 20 runs scored, a +10 "plate-discipline" ratio (10 walks + 3 hit-by-pitch - 3 strikeouts), a .700 on-base pct. and 4-of-4 on stolen bases.

Alex DiDomenico A230

Ohio State sophomore ace
pitcher Alex DiDominco

DiDOMENICO had a strong all-around showing (no earned runs allowed in 15 total innings) during tournament action at Jacksonville University, most notably in OSU's showdown vs. regional rival and 16th-ranked Louisville. That game extended into the 8th inning and DiDomenico's string of zeroes on the board helped deliver that hard-fought, 1-0 win. The Buckeyes ace limited Louisville to four hits and three walks, while striking out three.

For the week, DiDomenico went 3-0 to go along with her 0.00 ERA, totaling 11 strikeouts with only six hits allowed (.130 batting avg.). Her clutch performance against Louisville helped Ohio State move to 7-3 for the season and build off an opening-week win at top-10 team Georgia.

Selection for the CollegeSoftball360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):

• Performed at a high level in a game/event that involves a team receiving votes in the preseason polls; or excelled in games that are key to the team's postseason qualification. Bonus given for all-around play (i.e. defense, execution, etc.).

• In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent, contribution to team success and situational factors involved in the competitor's accomplishments.

• Exhibited strong leadership and/or involved in clutch performances, such as gamewinning plays, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, momentum-shifting play, all-around performance, team spirit, etc.

• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).

• Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home venue and/or against a traditional rival (and for historic performances, on a national level).
